To Whom It May Concern:

We are writing to recommend Barbara Trent for speaking engagements to universities and other institutions looking for a dynamic and eye-opening presentation on little-known aspects of our government's activities in other countries.

On April 7, 1999, Ms. Trent presented her film Coverup: Behind, the Iran Contra Affair at the Florida Atlantic University International Film Series in Davie. We had invited her because of the great success of her presentation of The Panama Deception at another film series at the university's Boca Raton campus in 1997. As she had earlier, Ms. Trent turned her presentation, film and post-film question-and-answer period into a rousing and thought-provoking engagement which energized and informed the audience while stimulating us to reflect critically on our government' s actions. Nothing could be further from the familiar and often passive experience of moviegoing. Barbara Trent is well-informed, articulate, entertaining and inspiring, the very model of a citizen-activist. The organization she heads is called The Empowerment Project, and for once "empowerment" is used in its strong and substantive political sense: Barbara Trent left us empowered that night, with ideas for action and change. Rather than preaching or propagandizing, she stimulates her audience to think for themselves. We'll invite her back again soon.

We cannot recommend Barbara Trent's presentations highly enough. They are among the best we have heard - no, participated in - in many years of programming campus films and speakers.

Sincerely,

Mike Budd
